THE DAVID MURPHY BAND

      hraje moderní americké blues, stejně tak jako funk a soul. Repertoár se pohybuje od chraplavého “roadhouse” blues Stevie Ray Vaughana, Freddy Kinga a Delberta McClintona k sametovému sofistikovanému chicagskému stylu B.B. Kinga, Jamese Cottona a Buddy Guye. DMB však přesahuje hranice blues, protože zahrnuje do svého repertoáru skladby Jamese Browna, Maceo Parkera a Red Hot Chili Peppers inspirované funkem, swingem a soulem. A protože blues není jenom o “mizérii dobrého člověka” ale také o oslavě života, přistupuje skupina ke svým koncertům s jistou dávkou show a nostalgickou elegancí.

      plays the best American blues, funk and soul this side of the Atlantic. The band funks out on an assortment of tunes ranging from original funk-blues fusion to sweet r&b and classic Texas and Chicago blues. Powered by soulful guitar and driving vocals, the DMB encompasses a unique blend of musical styles befitting their trans-Atlantic roots. Inspired by legendary artists as diverse as BB King, Maceo Parker, George Clinton, Freddy King and the Rolling Stones, the DMB enjoys nothing better that getting the audience up out of their seats dancing. Since music is a celebration of life and culture, the band performs their concerts with a level of showmanship and flair reminiscent of the Blues Brothers and other great show bands eager to introduce new fans to great sounds. Whether you are a blues enthusiast, funk freak or like to dance all night, the David Murphy Band brings the spirit of the blues directly from Main Street USA straight to the heart of Europe.

HISTORIE:

      David C. Murphy a Martin Procházka se poprvé setkali na jednom jam sessionu v Praze r.1999. Tehdy poprvé ucítili, že jejich hudební spojení může vést k založení výborného bandu, totiž kombinace precizního a disciplinovaného českého bubeníka s americkým kytaristou, který má vrozené bluesové cítění. Po několika měsíčním hledání muzikantů zjistili, že potřebují doktora. A tak se ke dvojici připojil profesionál Jan “Dr.Asnar” Drašnar, hrající na basovou kytaru a kapela tak nakoupila pod dozorem Murphyho skvělou rytmickou sekci. Dalším členem rodícího se souboru se stal neuvěřitelný pianový virtuos Jan "Honánek" Korselt, který se stal ihned “démonem” kapely. V té době se přestěhoval z Ameriky do Prahy letitý přítel, zpěvák, showman a spoluhráč Murphyho Chris “Elwood” Newman, hrající na harmoniku a který přinesl do kapely svůj styl a lásku k soulu. Kapele však stále ještě chyběla do dokonalosti Kateřina Vondráčková jako ženský symbol, s ohromnou dávkou energie a s triumfálním hlasem. Když se kapele na jaře r.2000 podařilo získat s ní trvalou spolupráci, měla kapela všechny trumfy v ruce. Nyní již stačilo zajistit práci pro dechovou sekci : Lukáš Linhart-trumpeta, Marek Bubel - alt.sax a trombonista Milan Král. Kapela se tak personálně uzavřela a mohla vyrazit na svou hudební dráhu. DM Band - připravuje na podzim tohoto roku CD, koncertování v evropských klubech, ale i v Praze a celé ČR .

HISTORY:

     Murphy Band just kept growing. It started in the usual way: a tight rhythm section, love of good time music based on the blues, funk and soul and a desire to get people out of their seats whenever the band played. This was the idea when guitarist, composer and singer David Murphy first started to jam with local musicians in Prague. Murphy brought with him from America his love of blues, R&B and soul music that he'd been playing and singing in a round NYC for years.
     After months of working with numerous musicians trying to find the right groove he called the Doctor, a.k.a Dr. Asner, Honza Drašnar on bass guitar to come and cure what was ailing him. The Doctor brought with him his vast talent and years of experience as a professional musician.
     The Doctor's partner in crime in this red-hot rhythm section is Jiří Horalek on drums. Although the newest member of the band, his rock-solid back beat drives the band like a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant Chysler engine. A key addition to the rhythm section was the flair and groove of pianoman and Hammond organist Honza "Honánek" Korselt. Honánek, a talented bandleader himself, plays some of the meanest boogy-woogy and roadhouse piano in around.
     The band then looked to round out its sound with a softer touch and add to its arsenal of stage-savvy performers. Perfect for this key task were the sultry vocals and feminine elán of singer Kateřina Vondráčková. Katka quickly became a favorite with fans with her powerful voice and modern dance. The finishing touch for this blues-funk and souls show-band was the addition of a powerful, uptown-style horn section under the leadership of Lukaš Linhart on trumpet, with Milan Král on trombone and featuring the funk and jazz-inspired saxophone of Robert Mitrenga.
     The 10 member David Murphy Band cranks out hot blues and funk and cool soul and R&B.
